Accommodation
When your application to study abroad has been approved by the country and school you have chosen the next that also need utmost attention is accommodation. Well, as an international student, you have options to read in newspapers and use the internet to look for available housing units or dormitories where you can live for the rest of the years of schooling.
Usually, most schools would also include in the package the choices of accommodation for your easy reference. There are also two types – the on-campus accommodation and off-campus accommodation.
On-campus accommodation As a student you need to have good living condition as well as ventilated and well lighted quarter to compliment your study period. The on-campus accommodation is one type of living where as a student you can choose to stay at school “dormitories.” They are buildings near schools or inside school compound which offer board and lodging services for international students. At least when you are new to the country you can easily get to school activities and other functions. There are also many available restaurants where you can dine at your pleasure. There are usually two to three students occupying one dorm and share a common but bigger comfort room facility. A lot of new international students would prefer the on-campus type as easy access to the school is very important when you are a foreign student.
Off-campus accommodation This is another type of accommodation for international students. There are schools that do not offer on-campus accommodations. However, there are off-campus housing offices that assist students needing accommodations. These offices would assist you in looking for more conducive place for learning. They also help you to find a compatible room mate so that you can share expenses to minimize costs of living and studying abroad. They also give enough information to students about popular restaurants, shopping areas, parks and recreation and other places, as well as transportation matters.
Renting If you also prefer to rent or lease an apartment visit lots of these types of houses and conducts queries according whether the house is safe for living. You should check and read carefully read the lease or rent contract to be able to secure knowledge about the business. This is very important so that you would not be put in great trouble. If there is something in the contract which you find it hard to understand you can immediately contact you’re the landlord and let him explain it to you further.
Also remember, when you are going to check out your international school, make sure you get a hotel you are comfortable in – you’ll need a good night’s sleep to be able to take in the visit and possible interview.
